Crooked Straight

It’s Here!

Nearly unbelievable true story, told as a memoir that often reads like a thriller, CROOKED STRAIGHT tells of Maryse’s unconventional coming of age through early loss of innocence, rebellion, survival, international drug trafficking adventures from Toronto to Amsterdam to Spain.

But that’s just the back story. We enter her life early one morning in Toronto when Maryse, at age twenty-five, has finally managed to extricate herself from a life of drug dealing and hopelessness, a life she landed in because of her deep shame over her early experiences of abuse at the hands of her mother and grandfather, events for which she shouldered the blame.

But life hands her much bigger problems on this day.

Over a five-hour period of time, she’s forced into choices she’s rather not make—choices that force her to look deeply into herself, into tearing apart her past. Choices she must make immediately. Choices that will affect her very freedom, yet give her an opportunity to see justice served—though in a quirky way—if only she’ll help Toronto police capture a wanted serial rapist. [While there’s a warrant out for her arrest.]

Highly relevant to today’s #MeToo movement. What happens when a girl faced with incest and abuse tries to protect herself and grow up at the same time?

The Carli Cano Mystery Series

Fast-paced, and light-hearted, with plenty of nefarious goings-on (can you spell m-u-r-d-e-r?) Carli Cano reels you into her San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. She created her own queendom by opening a women’s designer clothing resale shop after leaving behind the cattiness of the New York fashion world.

But fear not. Carli, in her own unmatched way, is here to untangle the threads, and straighten out every crooked stitch in her world. Because no one gets to mess with her town, her people, her tribe. But then it happens again . . .

Bio

Maryse was born in Montreal, Canada, early on a chilly Tuesday morning in January.

Drawn to the unconventional, to creative endeavors, and a bohemian at heart, she’d have spent her early adult years traveling the world whether those events she talks about in Crooked Straight happened.

She got her Bachelor’s Degree in English from the University of Nevada, but not until overcoming the events in Crooked Straight, getting married, and having children.

She ran a law firm for too many years and raised two exceptional human beings before dedicating her time to her first love: writing.

CROOKED STRAIGHT, her first memoir, launches on September 1, 2020.

Her second memoir, GOIN’ IN STYLE—How to Live Creatively After a Devastating Diagnosis, is due for publication November 2021.

When she’s not elsewhere, Maryse lives in a cute town north of Dallas, Texas, in a house surrounded by beautiful mature trees, the songs of birds, and don’t forget the squirrels!  Known to go radio silent for no reason.
